Frequently asked questions
What to know about searching on Lewan, posting your property and contacting announcers safely.
What is Lewan?
Lewan is a Syrian property market: apartments, houses, shops and land for sale and rent in every governorate, and cooperative memberships, from cooperatives, developers, agencies and owners that Lewan's team reviews before any of their ads appear.
Is Lewan free?
Yes. Browsing and contacting announcers are free, and so is posting ads.
How do I search?
Choose rent or sale, then the property type and the area, and narrow the results by price, rooms, area, furnishing and features such as solar panels or an elevator. You can also browse area pages such as "Properties for sale in Damascus".
How do I contact an announcer?
Straight from the ad: WhatsApp, a call, or a message that lands in the announcer's inbox. Lewan takes no commission and is not part of your agreement.
Who can post on Lewan?
Real-estate offices, independent brokers, property owners, building contractors, developers and housing cooperatives. Create a free account; once it is reviewed, your ads go live.
Why does Lewan review announcers?
Because trust matters most in property. We review every new account before any of its ads appear, check ads before they go live, and remove what breaks the terms or what visitors report.
What does "Example" mean on some ads?
Sample ads that show how Lewan works. They say "Example" on the card and the page, and their messages reach Lewan's team.
What are cooperative memberships?
Members' shares in housing cooperatives (subscribed or allocated) offered for transfer. Check the membership's status and what was paid and remains with the cooperative itself before agreeing.
Which currency are prices in?
Each announcer chooses: Syrian pounds or US dollars. Rents may be per month, per year or per day.
How do I avoid fraud?
Never pay a deposit before seeing the property and the original ownership papers. Ask for a recent property statement (بيان قيد عقاري) from the real-estate registry, match the owner's name with the seller's ID or power of attorney, and have a lawyer review the papers before you sign.
How do I report an ad?
Press "Report" on the ad and choose a reason. The team reviews reports and removes ads that break the terms.
Can I buy while living outside Syria?
Yes. See "Buying from abroad" and the guide to buying property in Syria from abroad: video viewings, checking ownership, and a power of attorney through a consulate or notary.
Do I need an account to browse or save favorites?
No. Favorites and recently viewed ads stay on your device.
Is Lewan in English?
Yes, the site is in Arabic and English. Ad texts are written by the announcers and may be in Arabic only.
