Renting a home in Syria: the contract, advances and electricity
Before you rent, ask about these and write them into the contract.
A written contract
A lease stating the term, the rent, how it is paid, the deposit and the furniture included, signed by both sides, and registered where that is required.
Advances and deposit
Many landlords ask for several months in advance (one, three, six or twelve) and a deposit returned when you leave. Write it into the contract and keep the receipts.
Electricity
Ask about the area's hours of power, the ampere subscription and its cost, solar panels and batteries if any, and the official meter.
Water and services
The water tank and its pump, internet and landline, heating, and the elevator in tall buildings.
Furnished homes
Photograph the home and its contents at handover, and list the furniture and appliances in the contract.
